Exfoliation is an essential step in the skincare process that so often goes overlooked. It helps us shed dead skin cells to help new ones flourish. When done correctly, exfoliating offers many benefits like improved circulation, unclogged pores, better absorption of skincare products, and overall smoother skin. Just one treatment a week can give you a brighter, more even complexion — PLUS you can DIY at home!

Our favorite scrub to make has got to be this Honey Matcha Exfoliator — it starts with a basic sugar scrub base and then we add organic matcha green tea powder and honey for a boost of antioxidants and anti-aging. Acne? Alleviated. Excess Oil? Eliminated. Dry patches? Defeated. Wrinkles? Walk your tush home! We’re talking magic here, people! But how does it work? Let’s break it down.

We use jojoba oil in this recipe for a few reasons. The first is that it’s light and not greasy so it’s great for all skin types. More importantly, jojoba oil is the closest ingredient you can get to the oil your skin naturally produces so it balances the moisture in your skin instead of adding to it. In addition it’s rich in Vitamin E and B-complex vitamins that help repair your skin and mitigate damage.

Honey is one of our favorite DIY skincare ingredients because it’s so versatile and serves so many purposes. It helps fight acne by balancing the bacteria on your skin. Then it gets to work with the sugar to slough off dead skin and clear gunk out of your pores. Both honey and sugar are also natural humectants meaning they help your skin retain moisture all day.

Finally our superstar ingredient joins the party — 100% Organic Green Tea Matcha powder from Skinny Bunny! The skin benefits are countless. Green tea is chock full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory goodness — reducing puffiness, irritation, and redness. Studies have shown that applying green tea to the skin topically has shown benefits in repairing and even preventing sun damage. It promotes DNA repair which restores vitality to the skin and helps protect against skin cancer. Not to mention the potent anti-aging and anti-acne benefits that come along with it!

The great benefit to using Skinny Bunny’s Matcha for this recipe is that it also makes delicious drinks and snacks — and researchers have found the greatest anti-aging developments when green tea is both ingested and applied topically in tandem. So if you want to improve your skin’s elasticity and moisture retention, sip a nice matcha latte while you go through your skincare routine!

We could go on and on about the amazing health benefits of green tea, so let’s just get into the recipe! Get ready for your new favorite weekly treatment. This soothing scrub will leave you feeling smooth, supple, and fresh. Best of all — you can use it on both your face and your body, so feel free to scale up the amount and make a big batch for a head to toe spa day!
